In Dr. Stokesbury's lab, we get the opportunity to participate in numerous fish tracking projects with some of our collaborators. One such project deals with improving connectivity and fish passage on several Bay of Fundy coastal river systems.

We’re back for another season, and ready to go hard! Today we met up with Erica and Darren Porter, as well as some collaborators from DFO, in order to set up the receivers that will be deployed for this year's studies.
Before starting a large-scale tagging study, it was necessary to show that fish could survive this invasive procedure. I started working on the project in the summer of 2018, right as I came out of my undergrad. As the first fish began running up-river, I scrambled to get all of the necessary equipment ready and set up my research station.
Fish tagging has been gaining popularity for decades, with biotelemetry now being the primary method used to study animal movements. But what is this technology, and why do we use it?
